Livestock

Meet our animals

At Nolands, we are passionate about our livestock being high welfare, high quality & highly sustainable.

In 2020, Chloe, the youngest Partner here at Nolands, reintroduced livestock to the farm for the first time in two decades. This decision stemmed from a lifelong love for animals & a desire to produce local & sustainable meat of the highest quality, whilst also helping to preserve some very special rare breeds.

BRITISH WHITE CATTLE

British Whites are a beautiful breed of white cattle, clearly identifiable by their black tipped ears, noses & feet. They can trace their origins back to the ancient indigenous wild white cattle of Great Britain. The breed is at risk of extinction, so we are very proud of our work helping to conserve them.

OXFORD SANDY & BLACK PIGS

Often referred to as โ€˜Plum Pudding Pigsโ€™ due to their rusty brown colouring & black patches, OSB Pigs are natural browsers & foragers. They are consequently well suited to woodland environments, which is where ours live here at Nolands. OSB Pigs are also at risk of extinction, so our breeding work is helping to preserve them.

As the name suggests, Wiltshire Horns are native to the beautiful county that Nolands calls home. Unusually for native British breeds, they naturally shed their wool, meaning that they donโ€™t need to be sheared. The Wiltshires are another breed at risk, so their place here at Nolands is very important.

WILTSHIRE HORN SHEEP

Partly derived from the Wiltshire Horn, Exlana sheep also shed their wool, making them well suited to extensive management. Along with their native counterpartsโ€™, their shed wool can be found lining the nests of the numerous farmland birds across Nolands in springtime.

EXLANA SHEEP

Boer goats originated in South Africa & are easily identifiable by their predominantly white bodies with red brown heads & markings. They are the only pedigree breed of meat goats in the UK & the British Boer Goat is renowned for its quality.
